2014

Robert Bowen Mount Barker Cabernet Sauvignon

Description

The wine has been minimally handled to retain the integrity of fruit and the complexity that the oak imparts. The characters of blackcurrants, cigar box and black olive are enhanced by the fine spice notes from French Oak. On the palate it shows the same dusty fruit flavours, with notes of intense black fruits and a beautiful mineral element. The tannins are simply divine and the wine is now showing a more complex structure from extended ageing in the bottle. First class Aussie Cabernet!

Extra Notes

The grapes for this wine were harvested off the Rocky Horror vineyard that is well named as the vineyard is planted on an extremely rocky slope. The vines on this vineyard struggle to grow many grapes and therefore crops are low but flavours are intense and the crop ripens fully in most years. The 2014 vintage was a warm one in Mt Barker and produced flavoursome grapes in an exceptional year.

Region

Mount Barker, Great Southern

This cool sub-region is generally regarded as the most important within the Great Southern. Ripening month and average temperatures in the established Mount Barker vineyards are significantly lower than in the Médoc, and significantly lower than in the lower warmer Bordeaux appellations such as Saint Emilion and Pomerol, although sunlight days are very similar.
