Brezo Mencia
Description
This unoaked wine made from the Mencia grape is almost indecently purple and fruity, with abundant ripe black cherries on the nose along with some roasted herbs. It is very natural, unoaked and unfiltered and a small amount of Garnacha Tintorera (aka Alicante Bouschet, once widely planted here) gives the wine its more generous feel.
Extra Notes
The grapes are sourced from old, head-pruned Mencia vines grown on the rocky hillside vineyards of Espanillo, Valtuille, Villafranca de El Bierzo and Carracedo with a range of 30-60 year old vines. To keep the wine pure and juicy, Perez de-stems 90% of the fruit, and ferments it with wild yeast in stainless-steel vats.
After starting his career in France, the wine-maker’s roots and a friends encouragement brought him to Spain, the Bierzo region, to be exact. Gregory Perez is one of the new generations most promising, dedicated to the creation of fantastic Spanish wines in his winery; a project which he dedicates all of his energy and passion and is based on the philosophy of respect and sustainability. This philosophy highlights the remarkable personality of each terroir, thus contributing to the production of original natural wines.
